how now black carabao

miss igorota meets the "national animal" of the philippines: the carabao ("kalabaw" in filipino).

the carabao (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis) is a domesticated species of the water buffalo. this beast of burden is the farmer's best friend. the carabao helps the farmer plow the ricefields in many a province to soften the earth and make it ready to be sown with rice seedlings. carabaos also pull wheeled carts filled with sacks of rice and other produce items.

this is just one of two carabao statues you'll see in luneta (rizal park) in manila, philippines.
